Terms of Use

Effective from

1. About these terms

These Terms govern your use of the Tropely app and website. Tropely is operated by Caeron Seabourne ("Tropely", "we", "us"). You can contact us at admin@tropely.io or write to 18 Dinas Path, NP44 4QQ, United Kingdom. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use personal information. Our Community Guidelines are part of these Terms when you use Friends.

These Terms set out the rules for using Tropely. Before you create a social profile, you must explicitly accept the current Terms and Community Guidelines together. The Privacy Policy is linked for review but does not require a separate acceptance. If you do not agree, do not use Friends.

2. Eligibility and your account

Tropely is intended for people aged 18 or over. You must provide accurate account information and keep access to your account secure. You are responsible for activity carried out through your account, except where the law says otherwise. Contact admin@tropely.io if you believe someone else has accessed it.

You may use a handle and display name with Friends. Do not impersonate anyone, use a misleading identity to evade a block or suspension, or use another person's rights without permission. We may restrict names that are abusive, misleading, or reserved for Tropely operations.

3. Books and recommendations

Tropely helps you discover and track books. Recommendations, descriptions, ratings, availability, and links are provided for information and may change or contain errors. Your own reading choices and ratings remain yours. We may link to booksellers, including through affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. The retailer handles its own sales and customer service. See our Affiliate Disclosure.

4. Friends and sharing

Friends is optional. A connection requires mutual action: a friend request accepted by its recipient, or an invitation created by one person and explicitly redeemed by the other. Exact-handle lookup and invitation previews may show your handle and display name to another eligible Tropely user before you connect. Your social profile is not a public web page.

Creating a Friends profile turns on reading sharing. Once you connect, eligible friends who also share can see books you are currently reading, eligible finishes from the preceding 90 days, and any rating attached to those finishes. The 90-day finish window moves with time. A current-reading book may remain visible even when you started it more than 90 days ago. You can pause sharing after creating your profile. Re-enabling it can show qualifying activity recorded while sharing was paused. Saves, passes, and individual discovery swipes are not shared through Friends.

You can hide individual books, remove friends, block users, or delete your social profile. Pausing sharing also prevents you from seeing friends' reading activity. Pausing does not remove your handle, display name, connections, or exact-handle discoverability. Deleting your social profile removes those social connections and discoverability, subject to the limited safety and retention information described in the Privacy Policy.

5. Your contributions and acceptable use

Your handle, display name, friend requests, reports, and any other information you contribute must follow the Community Guidelines. In particular, you must not threaten, harass, bully, impersonate, discriminate against, sexually exploit, spam, or attempt to expose another person's private information. You must not try to circumvent blocks, account restrictions, rate limits, or other safety controls. Do not upload or share anything you do not have the right to use.

You keep any rights you have in content you provide. You give Tropely the limited permission needed to store, display to the intended audience, filter, review, and remove that content, and to investigate reports under these Terms. This permission ends when the content is deleted, except for limited retained records explained in the Privacy Policy or where the law allows or requires retention.

6. Reports, blocking, and moderation

You can report a person in the app from their social profile, friend request, or friendship. You can also block another user or contact admin@tropely.io about a safety concern. We review reports and may remove or change a name, limit discoverability, suspend social access, or close an account where appropriate. We may act without prior notice when needed to protect users or the service. We consider the context and severity of a report; a report does not guarantee a particular outcome.

If you believe we made a mistake, contact admin@tropely.io to ask for a review. Do not use the report system to harass others or make knowingly false reports.

7. Availability and changes

We may change, pause, or discontinue features, including Friends, for safety, maintenance, or product reasons. We may update these Terms. If a change materially affects social participation, we will make the new version available and request any new acceptance required before you continue using Friends. Your statutory rights are unaffected.

8. Ending use

You may delete your social profile without deleting your Tropely account, or delete your whole account using the in-app account controls. We may restrict or terminate access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms or the Community Guidelines, subject to applicable law. The Privacy Policy explains what may remain after deletion for safety, legal, and operational reasons.

9. Responsibility and legal rights

We take reasonable care in providing Tropely, but cannot guarantee that the service will always be available or that book information will always be complete or accurate. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limits your consumer rights.

10. Intellectual property

The rights in Tropely's name, branding, app, website, and original content belong to us or the relevant rights holders. Book covers, descriptions, and other third-party material remain the property of their respective rights holders. You may use Tropely for its intended purposes, but these Terms do not give you ownership of our or anyone else's intellectual property. Your rights in your own contributions, and the limited permission you give us to use them, are described in section 5. Nothing here limits uses permitted by law.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer who lives elsewhere, this does not take away any mandatory rights you have under the laws of your country of residence. The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction, without limiting any right you have to bring proceedings in another court under applicable law.

12. Contact

Questions about these Terms, safety reports, and appeals can be sent to admin@tropely.io. Privacy requests are handled as described in the Privacy Policy.
