About The Blue Flower
In 1790s Germany, young Friedrich von Hardenberg—the future poet Novalis—falls in love with Sophie von Kühn, a girl whose simplicity unsettles his cultured family. Penelope Fitzgerald turns their improbable attachment into a spare, ironic portrait of idealism, family, and longing.
